Part 1: Journey to Success
Don’t we all want to be successful in one way or another? And yes, there are many ways that could lead us to success. Personally, one of the most important pathways is to be goal oriented. However, in my journey to success, through the ups and downs, I began to realize there was more to life than just goals and achievements.

“I would attribute this success to my father’s discipline and my own strong desire of not wanting to disappoint him. It made me a better person with achievements that I am proud of till today.”
In life, we all want to be successful in one way or another. I have realized that there are many ways that lead us through the journey of success. Among the many pathways, one of the most important is to focus on your goals and work towards it.
In my journey, being driven and goal oriented have benefitted me in achieving my personal success in my life. In being goal oriented, I have learnt that determination and courage are the cornerstones to do all that is needed to fulfil our dreams.
My journey in becoming driven and goal oriented began as early as my childhood as I was brought up in a family with a fluctuating source of income.
The reason was because my father, being the sole breadwinner of the family, was running his own small company that was exposed to the highs and lows of businesses.
Having said that, my father had imparted the knowledge of the need to save and spend money wisely as we had limited resources and money was hard to come by.
Despite seeing the virtue of saving and spending wisely, I felt a lot of pressure while growing up as I was fearful and lacked freedom for the things that I longed for.
One example was that my father supported my higher education and was constantly pressuring me to do well in my studies. He wanted to justify the money he had invested in my education.
Moreover, two of my sisters were not given the opportunity to study overseas due to our family’s financial constraints. Me and my younger sister are the only ones who were lucky enough to study overseas for our tertiary education.
In light of my upbringing and the fear of disappointing my family, I was very much determined to do well in my studies, and I achieved straight A’s in my A-Levels examination.
At the same time, having to grow up living with scarcity of funds and the fear of losing out, made me become a go-getter and the longing to be a successful person grew even stronger in me.
That being said, I was driven to do well in my education where I obtained First Class Honours in my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
I would attribute this success to my father’s discipline and my own strong desire of not wanting to disappoint him. It made me a better person with achievements that I am proud of till today.

At the same time, having to grow up feeling disrespected due to of my family’s lack of wealth had become drivers of motivation in me to become wealthy and garner respect among my peers.
Hence, I put in a lot of effort into my studies in the hope of securing a good job. I was blessed to land my first job with the Singapore Government Land Transport Authority as a mechanical engineer.
Following that, I was given the opportunity to work in United Technology of Aerospace System as an aerospace engineer. With this opportunity, I was exposed to global supply chains and was given ample travelling opportunities for exposure.
Meanwhile, I had a taste of what financial freedom is when my uncle opened my eyes to the world of investment. In contrast of my father, my uncle was a wealthy man as he was more open to networking and investment.
I personally saw the success my uncle had obtained through investing in an Australian mining company, where the company bagged 70 times return from its initial investment.
That said, I started being extremely interested in stock markets and took bold risks in my investments. Having to learn this new aspect of life, I felt the freedom that I was lacking and my perspective towards money began to change.
Even while I was working full-time, I invested and traded in stock markets on the side and saw one of my most impactful achievements – I invested in some businesses that gave me multi-bagger returns, resulting in substantial growth in my investment portfolio.
“being goal oriented and continuously driven to aim for success, I felt something substantial was still missing in my life.”

Through my successful returns, I took the opportunity to quit my day job in Singapore and became a full-time investor and trader. At the same time, my family had supported me on this quest as they saw my investment performance, thus providing extra funds to help grow the investment.
And as I continue to grow my funds in the stock market, I started to look for a new experience in seeking wealth of which I decided to go on the path of becoming an entrepreneur by co-founding Aureo Gallery.
It all started after my first time having to dabble into art as a collector. Soon, I found myself developing an interest in appreciating art as well as the learning experience of running an art gallery.
Through this experience, I was able to follow the pathway of learning the lessons and the roadmap to success as an entrepreneur and gaining more business wisdom.
That said, being goal oriented and continuously driven to aim for success, an important turning point in my life changed my perspective towards success.
Is life all about bagging wealth and success or is there a true purpose for each of us? I understand that we all desire to be successful but is that what we should be solely focusing on?
I’d honestly say no, as we as human beings have a higher consciousness that we all could reach. Personally, through picking up the habit of meditation, I was able to go through a journey of self-realization and found my life’s purpose and the true Michael Teh.
Would you be interested in finding your true life’s purpose and awaken your higher consciousness?
