The Energetic and Powerful Heart

Think about the beautiful human heart, which is an organ that makes sure oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood flows through our bodies at the right time. Now scientists are discovering that this amazing machine, which is about the size of a fist and weighs less than 10 ounces on average, also has an intelligence that they are only now beginning to understand.

Evidence suggests that the heart has a greater influence on our mental, emotional, and physical functions than previously thought.

Read on as scientists begin to shed light on and unravel this energetic and powerful heart.

“We now know that our heart can send powerful commands to our body and brain via electrical and neurological signals that not only keep us alive, but also control our mood and emotions. Overall, the heart’s electrical energy is so powerful that it can be measured in a 360-degree field 3 to 4 feet outside our bodies and radiates beyond our skin.”

In this article, we’ll shed light on:

  • The power of the heart’s electromagnetic field.
  • The relationship between the heart and emotions.
  • Steps to increase heart-brain coherence by stimulating positive emotions.

The Power of the Heart’s Electromagnetic Field

Did you know that of all the organs in the body, the heart generates the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field, making it the strongest source of electromagnetic energy in the human body? The electric field generated by the heart has an amplitude about 60 times greater than that of the brain.

This means that the heart not only responsible for pumping blood throughout the circulatory system, ensuring the supply of nutrients and oxygen to organs, tissues and cells, and the removal of waste products such as carbon dioxide. To put into context, “electromagnetic” refers to the electrical and magnetic forces or effects that an electric current creates.

The fact that the heart beats before the brain develops is another fascinating finding. The heart continues to beat even after the brain has ceased activity, as long as it has access to oxygen. To add, the heart has 40,000 neurons with processing, learning and memory functions. It also has its own emotions. Thanks to neurocardiology, we are learning more and more about the intuitive nature of the heart and how we can use this knowledge to improve our relationships with ourselves and others.

According to HeartMath studies, this strong electromagnetic field can be detected and measured both between two people who are close to each other and a few meters away from a person’s body.

The researchers wanted to know if the heart’s electromagnetic field, as measured by an electrocardiogram (ECG), could be detected in one person and measured in another when the two were either sitting about a meter apart or holding hands (HeartMath study, The Electricity of Touch: Detecting and Measuring Cardiac Energy Exchange Between People).

The Electricity of Touch experiment yielded encouraging results: The researchers explained that the data showed that “transmission of electromagnetic energy generated by the heart occurs when people touch or are close to each other.”

Although further research should be conducted, they noted that this research, when considered in light of the effectiveness of numerous healing modalities, could have important implications.

The findings state that a number of practices, including therapeutic touch, holoenergetic healing, healing touch, qigong and reiki (we would like to add meditation and yoga), “are based on the assumption that an exchange of energy occurs to facilitate healing“.

The Relationship Between the Heart and Emotions

We now know that our heart can send powerful commands to our body and brain via electrical and neurological signals that not only keep us alive, but also control our mood and emotions. Overall, the heart’s electrical energy is so powerful that it can be measured in a 360-degree field 3 to 4 feet outside our bodies and radiates beyond our skin. Our emotions are literally transmitted to those around us!

Try to imagine a person who, without even saying a word, can cheer you up just by being there. Or have you ever been told, “You radiate such positive energy”?

Another recent HeartMath study in which researchers examined whether there is an exchange of energy, in this case between the heart and brain, in one of the most intimate human relationships.

The Heart-Brain Synchronization Between Mother and Baby Proof of Concept study “explored the potential to measure energetic heart-brain interactions that can occur between a mother and her infant.”

The researchers were able to demonstrate that the mother’s brain waves synchronized with the baby’s heartbeat. In the experiment, the baby was placed on the mother’s lap with a blanket between the mother and baby. The authors of the study wrote in a summary of their findings, “These preliminary data highlight the intriguing finding that electromagnetic signals generated by the heart have the ability to influence others around us.” When the mother focused her attention on the baby, she apparently became more sensitive to the subtle electromagnetic signals generated by the infant’s heart. These results are intriguing because they suggest that a mother in a psychophysiologically coherent state is more sensitive to the subtle electromagnetic information encoded in her infant’s electromagnetic signals.”

The top wave (blue) in the graph is the mother’s averaged electroencephalogram (EEG) or brainwave signal. The bottom wave is the averaged electrocardiogram (ECG) signal from the infant. One technique for detecting synchronization between two signals is to average the signals. In this example, the mother’s brain waves are clearly synchronized with the baby’s heartbeat.

Steps to Increase Heart-Brain Coherence by Stimulating Positive Emotions

So, show me the steps! Here they are:

  • Think of something that makes you feel love, joy, or gratitude. You can also think of doing this by spending time with a child, a pet, or in spiritual presence.
  • Reinforce any positive emotions that come up, such as cheerfulness, hope, or inspiration. You can even use happy or calming colours for this. Allow yourself to smile as you enjoy the moment.
  • Consider sending these feelings (also known as input) from your heart to your brain. If your brain is tingling, you can think of these feelings as healing light energy or as shooting stars all you want.
  • Meditate! The ability of meditation to improve emotional well-being is increasingly being researched, and its practice has attracted sustained scientific attention.

Conclusion

We hope that you are inspired by the scientific findings about the power of our heart. Imagine the possibilities you have if you can radiate your positive heart to those around you. Be sure to follow the steps on how to strengthen these positive emotions.
