Winter Solstice – A Spiritual Perspective

Do you know that the light of the sun will begin a new solar cycle on the day of Winter Solstice? The festival began 2,500 years ago that celebrated by the Chinese was aimed to observe the movements of the sun with the use of a sundial. The festival is celebrated either on December 21 or 22 according to the Gregorian calendar.

On the day of Winter Solstice, the Northern hemisphere experiences the shortest daytime and longest night. Subsequently, the days will become longer and longer where ancient Chinese believed the yang, or muscular, positive things will become stronger and stronger after Winter Solstice, thus, it should be celebrated.

At the same time, the festival signifies how the light triumph over the long darkness as in winter, everything is dormant as the earth is in silence. It is a sacred time for both rest and reflection before the awakening and the forthcoming brighter days. Continue reading on to take a step forward into your enlightenment.

“Winter Solstice is the great stillness before the Sun’s strength builds, and as days grow longer – it is a time for us to rest and reflect.”

The energy of winter is damning but it is of fruitful darkness and silence out from which our soul’s yearnings and new inspirations come out. And as we consciously connect our awareness to nature’s cycle, our understanding of our growth cycles begins to deepen.

Have you asked yourself why do we spend so much time suppressing and hiding our darkness? We suppress our negative emotions when we feel them as they are inconvenient and uncomfortable. At worst, we feel guilty for feeling them.

At the same time, I believe many of us fear our darkness, thus we cut ourselves off from an essential source of our power. That said, the key is not to let the darkness overwhelm our lives and thoughts but to understand that darkness can be one of the greatest catalysts for our personal growth and transformation – and even our way to enlightenment.

By allowing ourselves to feel our emotions and experience our darkness, the darkness can become the spiritual cradle into which our inner light and new life are born. So, allow your feelings to guide you because your feelings are your truth.

Winter Solstice is the great stillness before the Sun’s strength builds, and as days grow longer – it is a time for us to rest and reflect. At the same time on this day, rest yourself in the peace of darkness but know that the season is about to change, and the return of brighter days is ahead. Remember that you are always connected to the Source, and your inner light never dims.

At the same time, don’t pressure yourself to make changes right now but allow the energies of new life and inspiration to build slowly within you and when spring comes, you will be bursting with new energy and ideas.
