Workplace Mindfulness & Meditation, Teachings from the Late Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh

Did you know that not just people, but huge corporations are interested in learning the teachings from the late Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) who advocates bringing mindfulness and meditation into the workplace as it will help corporations to turn away from their destructive ways and to be aware of the interconnectedness of all life? “Meditation practice can help business to suffer less,” he shares. “That is good already because if your employees are happy, your business can improve.”

To learn more about Thay’s thoughts about workplace mindfulness and meditation, please continue reading.

Meditation can alleviate your pain and give you a more accurate vision of yourself and the world, and if you have a collective wisdom, then naturally you will want to handle and conduct your business in a way that helps lessen the suffering of the world around you.

“Meditation practice can help business to suffer less,” he says. “That is good already because if your employees are happy, your business can improve.”

“If your business is causing problems for the environment, and you have meditated, you might have an idea of how to run your business in a way that does less damage to nature.

“Meditation can alleviate your suffering and provide you with more insight and a more accurate vision of yourself and the world, and if you have collective knowledge, you will naturally want to handle and conduct your company in such a way that the world suffers less.”

According to Thay, introducing mindfulness into the workplace can also help employees avoid being overwhelmed by their work, but management must lead by example to reduce the impact on the environment when the company produces problems.

“Meditation can alleviate your pain and give you a more accurate vision of yourself and the world, and if you have a collective wisdom, then naturally you will want to handle and conduct your business in a way that helps lessen the suffering of the world around you.”

Therefore, it is important for executives and senior leaders to find time for themselves (self-care) and for their families, because if they do, it will ultimately benefit the company, as they (leaders) will be calmer, more caring, more compassionate and more understanding – allowing them to make smarter decisions and run the company better.

As many of us return to the workplace after two years of the pandemic, it is important that we take care of ourselves first, as we will then be in a clearer state of mind where we are able to make good decisions, not act on our impulses and emotions, and not jeopardize productivity and relationships with our colleagues. And if you are feeling stressed and stuck at work, feel free to reach out to me, as I am happy to help you on this journey with the power of mindfulness and meditation.
